Traffic Engineering Information and Research
The TEIR Branch consists of the following five (5) functional units:
1. Accident Investigations and Recording
Purpose: to manage and control the collection, investigation and recording of road crash data on a national basis and manage and oversee the National Incident Management Programme.
2.Road Traffic Information Management
Purpose: to provide up to date, reliable and accurate information to support planning and decision making by stakeholders.
3.Infrastructure Engineering and Safety Audits
Purpose: to reduce the risk of using the road network,
4.Research and Development
Purpose: to identify, prioritize, undertake and manage research and development projects.
5.Administrative Adjudication of Traffic Offences (AARTO)
Purpose: to operationalise and manage various related functions in terms of the AARTO Act.
