Competent heavy motor vehicle drivers were awarded during the prize giving ceremony of the National Driver of the Year Competition at a fully packed Hall in Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane last night. The competition was highly contested and drivers from all the nine provinces showed great passion which made it a very tough championship.

 

The winners per category are as follows:

 

Bus Category – Ladies

First prize:            Ms. PL Mavimbela (Gauteng)

Second prize:      Ms. BN Shabangu (Mpumalanga)

Third prize: Ms. NG Mgweba (Free State)

 

Bus Category – Men

First prize:            Mr. AP Vumazonke (North West)

Second prize:      Mr. JJ Nene (Mpumalanga)

Third prize: Mr. O Saayman (Western Cape)

 

Rigid Truck Category

First prize:            Mr. M Tsomane (Northern Cape)

Second prize:      Mr. P Steenkamp (Northern Cape)

Third prize:           Mr. E Wyngaard (Western Cape)

Rigid with four wheel trailer Category

First prize:            Mr. A Sahabodien (Western Cape)

Second prize:       Mr. OF Tshabalala (Fress State)

Third prize:           Mr. KS Malatjie (Limpopo)

 

Articulate Category

First prize:            Mr. C Erasmus (Western Cape)      

Second prize:      Mr. M Radebe (Gauteng)

Third prize:          Mr. JC Rossouw (Free State)

 

Rigid Category - Novice

First prize:            Mr. J Hanse (Eastern Cape)

Second prize:      Mr. RP Mashele (Mpumalanga)

Third prize:          Mr. V Naidoo (KZN)

 

Delivery Vehicle Category

First prize:            Mr. HJ Bexter (Eastern Cape)

Second prize:       Mr. ZA Majo (Eastern Cape)

Third prize:           Mr. F Isaaks (Northern Cape)

 

Mr. HJ Bexter from Eastern Cape was crowned the overall winner with a total prize money of R25,000 and Northern Cape emerged the best team. The prizes were R15,000 for first position, R10,000 for second position and R5,000 for a third place across the board.

 

Prominent figures who were amongst the guests were the Minister of Transport Sbu Ndebele; Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale; MEC for Roads & Public Transport Pinky Kekana; High Priest of ZCC Bishop Lekganyane and locally based business people.
