The Road Traffic Management Corporation would like to warn against drinking and driving during this long weekend. The trend is such that during long weekends, especially on Saturday, most road users’ travel to different destinations, attend weddings, parties and all sorts of gatherings, where alcohol beverages are served. These leads to some of the motorists ignoring rules of the road and that could lead to fatalities.

Statistics has shown us that while speed is a factor in most crashes, alcohol is another major contributory factor accounting for approximately 47% of drivers and 70% of adult pedestrians involved in fatal crashes.

Local authorities will be on the look out for all those who chose not to obey the rules of the road, including drinking and driving. “The message is clear to those who will be caught drinking and driving, we will arrest you and put you in jail”, says the acting CEO of RTMC, Mr Collins Letsoalo. 

“We are glad that the Director of Public Prosecutions has cleared the dragger and agreed that it will come into use again. We will use it this long weekend, and that will help us in fast tracking cases in court”, said Mr Letsoalo.
